HOW WELL DO YOU KNOW THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS (SDGS)?

It may interest you to know that millions of people across the world still do not know about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals are the Global Goals, ratified by almost all nations of the world. The goals are for the betterment of every society, community, and the world at large.

At The Partners Club (TPC), our ideals are founded on People, planet and profit. We educate ourselves on the SDGs, its importance, why the whole world needs to get involved, and we also take steps towards achieving the SDGs. We realize that we can have a world that is just, equitable, and works for everyone, hence, our pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals, also known as the Global Goals. Today, we shall discuss Goal 1 of the SDGs which is, ‘NO POVERTY’. Let’s delve right into it!

GOAL 1: NO POVERTY

According to the United Nations;

  1. More than 700 million people, or 10% of the world population, still live in extreme poverty and is struggling to fulfil the most basic needs like health, education, and access to water and sanitation, to name a few?
  2. Do you know that globally, there are 122 women aged 25 to 34 living in extreme poverty for every 100 men of the same age group.
  3. The majority of people living on less than $1.90 a day live in sub-Saharan Africa.
  4. Worldwide, the poverty rate in rural areas is 17.2 per cent — more than three times higher than in urban areas.
  5. Poverty affects children disproportionately. One out of five children live in extreme poverty.
  6. As of 2018, 55% of the world’s population have no access to social protection.
  7. In 2018, only 41% of women giving birth received maternity cash benefits.

Amazing, right? What can we do about it? Do you think we can achieve a world of no poverty by 2030?

Several organizations across the world are taking both giant and baby steps towards the realization of the SDGs including the Partners Club.

It is estimated that by 2030, we should be able to eradicate extreme poverty for all people everywhere, currently measured as people living on less than $1.25 a day, and reduce at least by half the proportion of men, women and children of all ages living in poverty in all its dimensions according to national definitions.

At The Partners Club (TPC), we believe that if the world will come together as one; both individuals and organizations, working towards the realization of the SDGs, we can achieve a world of NO POVERTY by 2030. We have started already, you too can join us today.
